Apple is gearing up to unveil iOS 18 at WWDC 2024. Ahead of the launch, the upcoming operating system update for iPhones is anticipated to deliver a comprehensive makeover, introducing on-device AI features and a smarter Siri.

iOS 18 is poised to significantly change iPhones, including AI features and software updates. One notable change may be the ability to arrange app icons on the Home Screen freely. Additionally, Apple is rumored to adopt the RCS messaging standard with iOS 18, potentially enhancing communication between iPhone and Android users.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iOS 18 will introduce eagerly awaited AI features and update popular built-in iPhone apps like Photos, Mail, Notes, and Fitness. Moreover, the Calculator app, for the first time, will be available on the iPad.

Gurman previously mentioned that iOS 18 will be the most significant iPhone update ever, featuring an all-around makeover enabled by AI-backed features and notable OS enhancements, including an improved Siri and a customizable Home Screen.

AI Advancements: iOS 18 is expected to bring on-device AI features, such as auto-generated playlists on Apple Music and AI-powered writing assistance in Pages and Keynote. Apple aims to make its iPhone AI smarter by primarily processing AI features on the device itself, without relying heavily on cloud servers.

Smarter Siri and Beyond: Alongside AI features, Apple plans to enhance Siri with AI advancements. This could result in more natural conversations with Siri, improved search suggestions, and automated tasks tailored to users’ needs. Siri, Spotlight search, Shortcuts automation, and iMessage could all benefit from these improvements.

Home Screen Makeover: iOS 18 might introduce the ability to freely place app icons anywhere on the Home Screen, offering users more customization options. This could include creating blank spaces, organizing icons in rows or columns, and ultimately personalizing the iPhone experience.

RCS Messaging: With iOS 18, Apple is expected to adopt the RCS messaging standard, potentially improving communication between iPhone and Android users. RCS messaging could bring features like high-resolution photos, enhanced group chats, and read receipts to text conversations between iOS and Android devices.

A Smarter Safari Experience: AI capabilities may extend to Safari, potentially introducing a browsing assistant similar to existing AI tools in other browsers. This could include features like web page summaries and information extraction, enhancing the overall browsing experience.
